Knight Rider features David Hasselhoff in the role of Michael Knight, an ex-cop turned private crime fighter. But the true star of the show is Michael’s car, K.I.T.T. (Knight Industries Two Thousand), a sleek black Pontiac Trans-Am impervious to bullets, fire, or most any type of mayhem. Outfitted with state-of-the-art, top secret Artificial Intelligence, K.I.T.T. is not only capable of self-operation (with his mission to protect all human life), but he’s outfitted with smoke bombs, flamethrowers, infrared sensors, and countless other nifty gadgets. Able to verbally communicate with humans, K.I.T.T. maintains a special friendship with Michael, developing his own personality (which at times provides comic relief for the show). Just as criminal outlaws of the early-1980s feared the wrath of The A-Team, the prospect of a visit from Michael and K.I.T.T. certainly caused many sleepless nights for America’s criminal element…
The Knight Rider DVD features a number of action-packed episodes including the season premiere “Knight of the Phoenix” in which the downed police officer Michael Long is revived, after being declared dead, by the billionaire philanthropist Wilton Knight. After agreeing to carry out the proposed task of crime fighter, Michael is introduced to K.I.T.T., a sports car durable as tank, outfitted with the latest technologies, able to travel at speeds in excess of 300 mph, and equipped with a mind of its own… Other notable episodes from Season 1 include “Good Day at White Rock” in which Michael and K.I.T.T.’s vacation turns into a working vacation when a biker war erupts in the small town of White Rock, and “A Plush Ride” in which Michael goes undercover as a limousine/bodyguard trainee in order to foil an assassination plot with international implications…

Gardenias And Their Care
May 7th, 2008 by ntpserver3457There are a lot of people out there that have no luck with growing gardenias but then there are still those few that have very good luck with growing gardenias. Sounds to me like you have some magic powers when it comes to growing plants. At least when it comes to plants that no one else can grow. Let’s first agree that although these Gardenia flowers sparkle like moondust with their pure white petals, although they send off a thick unforgettable fragrance so enchanting it goes right into perfume, growing them is pure science.
When growers cultivate these, they must know what makes them grow and what makes them flower, because those are the Gardenias that will fly off the shelves. You can use what they know to become a better Gardenia Gardener.
There is a report that some scientists put out on the study of gardenia plants it is called, “Flower Initiaition and development in gardenia plants as affected by photoperiod and night temperature.” What scientists E. P. Makridou and A. S. Economou did was expose Gardenias just like yours to different daylengths: eight, 12 and sixteen hour days, for four weeks. Then they took all the Gardenias and exposed them to sixteen hours of daylight for four more weeks. Which Gardenias do you suppose had the most flowers?
The ones that began with eight hours of light, the ones with 12 hours of light Or the ones with 1sixteen hours of light? Turns out that the Gardenias that had the shorter days, and then switched to longer days, had the most flowers of all. The researchers concluded that ’short photoperiods promote flower bud initiation in Gardenia plants. But that’s not all! They did another experiment.
This time, they exposed all their Gardenias to eight-hour days for four weeks and then split them up into three groups. These pots were now grown under different daylenghts eight, 12 and sixteen hours long. Guess the results for this experiment. Did changes in day length affect flowering? Answer: The ones that had long days for a full eight weeks and the days that were sixteen hours long flowered quickest. Then they did another test!
They wanted to know if night temperatures would have any effect on Gardenias. So they grew them all with eight hours of daylight and set the thermostat at 75 degrees F. When the lights went out, they lowered the temperature to while the night temperatures were kept at 55, 65 and 75 degrees F.
They did this for four weeks. Then they chaned the night temperature. All Gardenias were now spending their nights in a 65-degree F room. They did this for four weeks. And they tried several other combinations of temperatures as well, all with the same eight hour day length.
Results: Gardenias flowered earliest when exposed to days and nights of 75 degrees F. All the Gardenias flowered. There was no other effect observed on the number of flowers. So if you want to use this research, you would want to give your Gardenia only eight hours of daylight for four weeks. Then you would make the day longer. You would give it sixteen hours of daylight. This Gardenia would have constant temperatures of 75 degrees F the whole time. And you would have Gardenias coming out of your ears.
If you put your Gardenia outside, you know it’s going to get Aphids. But this is not a problem! Because you are going to run down to the Garden Center and pick up a nice big container of Ladybugs. Spray them with Sprite before you put them down. That will keep them from flying away. Sprinkle them around your Gardenia, in the middle of your Garden. If you have Roses, you can put them in the same area, and the Ladybugs will run around your garden hunting for Aphids, Mealybugs, Beetle larvae, ants, all kinds of insects you never knew you had.
No fuss, no muss. And you can get up close and personal with your Gardenia, you can eat your Gardenia, and there will be nothing poisonous there to make you sick. I love that most of all. If you keep your Gardenia potted, it will most certainly dry out very quickly. Growing one of these is not like growing them indoors. The great outdoors is full of surprises, and these Gardenias do not take dry soil kindly. Watch it very carefully if you do that. I do believe however the fresh air is good for everyone after a winter indoors.
They’ll study that someday, but for now, it’s my personal theory. Remember that humidity is always important for these plants, that a low pH is their comfort zone, and that when moving anything to a full sun exposure you should do it gradually to give leaves time to adjust their chlorophyll. If not then as I have said go to your local nursery and talk to them about your gardenia or you can go on the internet and do a search for gardenia and see what you come up with.

Family Guy (Season 3) DVD Review
May 6th, 2008 by ntpserver3457Having first aired after the 1999 Super Bowl, Family Guy really hit its stride via cable re-runs and DVD sales (prompting Fox to announce the launch of Season 4 in May 2005, following the show’s original cancellation following Season 3). An animated series building a similar cult following to The Simpsons and Futurama, Family Guy employs its own unique brand of humor distinct to its other animated peers…
Family Guy follows the life and exploits of Peter Griffin, an idiotic family man flanked by his intelligent and loving wife, Lois. The couple have two children - Chris (an overweight, mentally challenged teenage boy), Meg (a neurotic teenage girl with low self-esteem), and Stewie (a super-intelligent infant who believes his mother is his enemy). Together, the Griffins live with their human-like dog, Brian, in suburban Quahog, Rhode Island…
The Family Guy (Season 3) DVD features a number of hilarious episodes including the season premiere “The Thin White Line” in which Brian takes his therapist’s advice and decides not to be so self-centered and to help others. Brian’s new attitude leads to his employment as a drug-sniffing K-9 for the Quahog police force. But while on the job, Brian becomes addicted to cocaine, and while in rehab, he discovers that the Griffin family (and Peter in particular) are a bad influence on his life… Other notable episodes from Season 3 include “And the Wiener is…” in which Peter joins a gun club, and “Mr. Saturday Knight” in which Peter decides to follow his lifelong dream of becoming a knight with the traveling Renaissance Fair…

What to Look for in Archery Products

I had my first experience of how much difference using archery products can make in my first summer camp. They were just standard longbows, but after my stick and string contraptions, they were a big improvement to my archery experience.
When I got home from summer camp, I was very excited about getting some archery equipment of my own. After weeks of begging, my parents finally gave in, even though they were against any kind of hunting, shooting, or other violent acts against animals. In fact, they were able to buy me some serious archery products. They got me a composite bow, some professional quality arrows, and a sturdy archery quiver. However, my father made sure that I only used the archery products in a little shooting range that we set up in the backyard,
You should consider a few things before you purchase a set of archery products for your son. If your child is responsible, well supervised, and stable, then you can buy him some archery equipment. Remember that disturbed kids can do a lot of harm if you gave them weapons of any kind. You should also make sure that your son has a genuine interest in the sport of archery before you pay for an expensive set of archery products. Otherwise, you will just be wasting your money on some sports equipment that will just collect dust in the attic.

Make Money as an Act Of Love To God!
May 4th, 2008 by ntpserver3457Earn money so you can be generous to the work of the Lord and to the poor. And earn money so you can be generous with your loved ones.
Living a simple life doesn’t mean being stingy!
Mary, the sister of Martha, anointed Jesus with expensive ointment worth 300 days wages. Now that’s extravagant! Judas Iscariot complained that the perfume should have been sold off and given to the poor. Jesus, however, didn’t think it was wasteful but rather praised Mary’s act of love. The point? Once in a while, we can be excessive when it comes to giving gifts to one another- out of love.
When my father celebrated his 80th birthday, I recall my family spent a small fortune for an expensive dinner where we invited all his friends. (Well actually, it wasn’t that expensive. At 80 years old, most of his friends were already chatting with St. Peter). Some would have accused us of being “excessive” because what we spent during that birthday party could have fed 10 families in Bangladesh for an entire month. But somehow, I knew that God was smiling when we did that for Dad. It may have been excessive if as a family we didn’t regularly share our belongings with the poor. But that is something we have done all our lives, thanks to my father’s inspiring example. One day, I bought Holland tulips for my wife. Again, a part of me was saying that I could feed lunch to 10 orphans from Nigeria with what I spent. But I felt God assure me that He wanted me to be loving towards my wife-and that He provides me with more wealth so that I can help the orphans on another occasion. One day, a friend of mine who tithes regularly complained that he was still barely making ends meet. I told him, “Tithing is one principle of financial blessings?” He stared at me amazed. “Other principles? I only know one and that’s tithing.” I rattled off my list. “Do you live a simple life? Do you tame your materialistic desires? Do you avoid credit? Do you believe that God has given you all the abilities that you need in order to earn more than enough? Do you work hard? Do you persevere when you fail repeatedly? Do you serve your customers with love and excellence? He shook his head. My friend confessed that he’s an impulsive buyer and uses his credit card recklessly. He never saves. He never opens himself to new income streams.
Many people want to succeed but they’re not wiling to pay the price of success. As much as I love manna and the supernatural miracles of God, let me say it again: Manna is designed by God to teach you an attitude, not a behavior Mixing up these two words has caused untold misery in people’s lives. If you think manna is teaching you a behavior, you’ll say hilarious things like…”Don’t budget. God will just miraculously work it all.” or Don’t save, don’t buy insurance, don’t think of investments or dabble into business. That’s all worldly stuff and will bring you to hell.
Just trust God.” If you say those things, you’ll never leave the desert of financial difficulty. Do you want to be successful in life? Success in biblical language is “bearing fruit”. But God doesn’t give you the fruit of success of success. What He gives you instead is the land that will bear the fruit of success.
So in the Promised Land, you need to work that Land: till the soil, plant the seeds and harvest the crops. A lot of hard back straining work1
My friend, in the Promised Land you decide how much money you want to earn.

Simple No Risk Strategy To Squeeze More Money Out Of Your Customers!
May 3rd, 2008 by ntpserver3457If you had a no-risk way that is guaranteed to fatten your wallet, would you use it? Of course you would. I have a simple solution to do that, and I’m shocked that most internet marketers are not implementing this simple strategy. If you implement it, you’ll be ahead of most of the average internet marketers. Anyway, this is what you do:
Simply put an additional offer order form right before your customer completes their purchase.
This additional offer can be two things, a cross-sell and an up-sell. You can use a cross-sell by combining a related product to the original order. Or you can use the up-sell by giving your customers an ‘upgraded or premium version’ of your product.
Here is an example of a cross-sell:
“Yes! I want to gain Maximum Muscle In Minimal Time with the Maximum Muscle Protein Powder for $30 right now! Also include my 12-bar box of Maximum Muscle Protein Bars, the perfect food bar for the serious bodybuilder at the rock-bottom price of $19.97!”
(In this case, protein bars are related to original product, the protein powder.)
Here is an example of an up-sell:
“YES! I want to super size the soda and fries for only 50 cents more!”
(In this case, the bigger portion of the meal is the upgraded version of the original product.)
The reason you want to do this is because your customer already has his credit card in hand and are receptive to buy your original product. The cross-sell and up-sell technique works because it plays into your customer’s impulse buying habits.
Like I said before, there is absolutely no risk in having these offers. Your customers can either order your package deal or they don’t. But let’s say only 50% of your customers do order your additional offers; calculate how that can fatten you wallet. There is nothing to lose, and more money to gain! You will only win in this situation!
Just be creative when cross-selling your products. You can figure it out, just use your common sense! Here are a few examples to get you started:
Golf equipment - after they’ve purchased hundreds of dollars of equipment, would your prospects want to know how to improve their swing? Offer them an instructional DVD or a subscription to a golf magazine.
Insurance - after your prospect bought an auto insurance policy, offer them a vacation package at $100 off.
Information products - after your prospect bought your $597 product, offer them a limited time offer of purchasing the bonus CD set that usually sells for $397 at a one time only price of $97.
Just integrate these offers in your website ordering page with a checkbox. The beauty of offering these upsell/cross-sell goodies is that it takes a minute to implement, but doesn’t cost you any extra money to advertise and promote.
To sum up, the cross-sell/up-sell works well because people are in the ‘buying’ mode, and it takes less effort push them deeper in your extra ‘money-saving’ offers. If you want some extra money with very little effort, start using this strategy today!

What You Can Benefit From Parenting Classes Focusing On Money Matters
April 30th, 2008 by ntpserver3457Finally, your children have grown old enough and are off to college, now you can relax a little but you will still worry about the general things such as grades and drug usage. Several months later your daughter calls crying and hysterical about a “major problem”, your parenting mode kicks in and you try to calm her down and find out what the heck is going on. After a few minutes you shockingly discover she got a credit card by herself and is already 5 grand in debt. This is a common occurrence happening around America right now, and it is your fault because you did not teach them proper money management.
Securing Your Childs Future
As a parent it is our responsibility to teach, guide and comfort children. We would not want our children to be thousands of dollars in debt and living in wooden shacks, therefore we need to coach them in money matters. Parenting classes focus on reasons why this is an important lesson for your child to learn. The teachers of such classes are Financial Experts themselves, and know what they are talking about; they recommend you train your children to split up their money that they have made, whether its allowance or contributions, but only you as their parent can teach them this.
For the younger children, having 3 piggy banks with labels ‘Spend’, ‘Save’ and ‘Donate’ on them is a creative idea to use. They can decide how much they want to put in each piggy, some may put it all in the spending piggy bank but do not worry, the lesson they will learn about this issue comes later on.
When the time comes, you will be at Wal-Mart shopping, and your child will ask you for a candy bar. What to say, how to handle it, think, think, think. Now you wish you went to Parenting Class don’t you? They would have taught you the appropriate things to say in this situation, for example; “Sorry, honey, but I do not have any extra money today” or perhaps “Maybe Santa will bring it for you this year”, you can test trail each thing they recommend and see which your child is most responsive to. Children know how to pull your strings and get their way, do not give in and teach them the lesson that they need to be taught.
Another important lesson is teaching your child to treat others the way they want to be treated, or in other words, if they want a gift they need to buy them a gift too. Allow them to go shopping with you and pick out the gift for their friend, let him pay for it (with or without your money). This also teaches him another valuable lesson, responsibility.
Some more advice that parenting experts who teaches parenting classes offer are quite simple and make a lot of sense. You want to avoid teaching your child that your importance is established on the name brand of items you own. Take great care in your comments to children such as “Julie, Where’s your Old Navy Sweater?” it is better to say it like “Julie, Where is that pretty Blue Sweater?” Another large issue we face is the television teaching our kids what it is popular to own. When they watch SpongeBob all day, you find them begging you for the new SpongeBob cereal or that they must have the new SpongeBob action figure when they have millions already. If you avoid allowing them to do this in the early stages of their life then they will retain that knowledge and remember it later on.
Sign up today for a parenting class to avoid serious financial issues later on both you and your child’s behalf, of course if they go on debt in college, who ends up paying for most of it, YOU!

Internet Marketing In South Africa

This article is written from my own experiences, on the many problems facing South African based internet marketers. As a South African, myself, I have been trying to establish myself in internet marketing, for the last three years, but have come across a number of obstacles, which have proved seriously detrimental to my efforts. If you are South African, you can probably relate to this. If you have been battling what seem insurmountable odds, or if you are new to this concept, the message is the same. Stop wasting your time and your money on what is bound to be nothing less than - wasting your time and your money and I will explain why I said that. If you are an internet marketer, who is not South African, you should also read this article, because you are, unwittingly, leaving a lot of money on the table.
As we all know, South Africa is a part of Africa and is unfairly considered as a third world country, with the incorrect perception that this second largest continent, is nothing more than a waste of time, in the field of internet marketing. Well, I beg to differ. I will attempt to outline some of the misconceptions, obstacles, causes and remedies that I have encountered.
Yes, it is true that Africa has not progressed as much as the so called first world countries, but it is taking giant strides towards that. The advent of the internet, is only just beginning to catch on and the vast majority of the population, still have no access at all, but it is coming and it is coming fast. The internet is now available in all countries around the world and Africa is no different. We all know about the Nigerian internet scams. It is just that the vast majority of the population are poverty stricken and cannot afford the service, many are illiterate and the majority of the continent consists of large open spaces and small villages, making the physical provision of any basic services such as electricity, clean water, telephones and other communication devices extremely difficult. It is also an ongoing problem, where these desperate people steal cables and anything that can be traded for a meal. So, at this stage the internet is only available in the bigger metropolitan areas. It makes sense, doesn’t it? Imagine how easy it is to supply services to a very densely populated area like England and where everyone is literate, in a fixed abode and living above the poverty line.
South Africa is the most technically advanced country in Africa and not far behind the standards of the other technology rich countries, but we are seriously lacking in internet technology. The internet is still very new to South Africa and has only just begun to catch on. It is experiencing a phenomenal growth rate and more and more businesses and individuals are “hooking up”. All of the major cities are able to offer various means of connection such as ADSL, bluetooth, wireless and people are getting connected on their pcs, laptops and cellphones. The rural areas are battling to get connected and the only option available to them at this stage is the old antiquated dial up system using a telephone line, or via satellite. Promises have been made by government, that in a few years, everyone will be able to get a telephone and therefore, will have internet access available to them. This represents an enormous potential for wary marketers.
This is the overview of the situation with internet access in Africa and more particularly, South Africa. In the next article, we will look at some of the problems faced by South African users and the effects they have on internet marketing.
Part 2
Recent political changes, have reversed the fortunes of the South African population, in that the previously disadvantaged black community, now have money and the fine things in life, including access to the internet. Whereas before they wouldn’t have been considered a viable market, they are now able to access the internet and dabble in small business. They want more. The whites, on the other hand, now find themselves out of work, unsure of the future and desperately seeking an alternative means of income. Both groups make good target markets, and both are particularly keen on using the internet to improve their lot in life. Remember, the internet is the biggest employer in the world and does not recognise age, colour, education, physical disabilities, wealth etc. People hear of the successes achieved on the internet and are fooled into looking for a quick fix. The internet and marketing via this medium, gives everyone an equal opportunity, well, almost everyone. Not South Africans, unfortunately.
Something like 70% of the S.A internet community, access the internet on the computers at their places of employment and as much as two hours each workday, is lost to private usage of the internet. Obviously these people are not all looking for ways to make money, but a large percentage are. These people who are newly exposed to all the hype on the internet are easily sucked in to believing the sales pitch. A lot of money is being spent on all sorts of junk and causing many heartbroken families. I was like that too. I firmly believed I could make a lot of money on the internet and set about joining all sorts of schemes. They do not work, but these desperate and naïve people don’t know that. Imagine if it was possible to guide them, to channel all that energy and curiosity and of course all that money into your bank account? If those people all trusted you and listened to your advice, if you were able to develop well thought out plans and business opportunities? If those people all joined your membership site?
One of the biggest drawbacks in S.A is that the internet and allied services are still very expensive and difficulty in finding a good service provider. Other first world countries have direct, fast, unlimited service at very reasonable prices and if they do experience problems with the service provider, there are plenty of others to try. According to a recent survey, something like 70% of all internet users, regularly access the ‘net from their places of employment. The employer provides pcs and internet for business purposes and these curious people cheat their employers, by using his service for private usage. People send emails to friends, go shopping, download files, look at pornography, play games, gamble and read classifieds and other adverts for a better job, or an easy method of earning more money. From this survey it was estimated that as much as 85% of this target group were looking for self employment opportunities. Now, that’s a lot of people! If the price of internet access was cheaper, all these people would use it at home. In fact, most do have internet access at home, but due to small caps on their usage and exorbitant prices, they rather use the employer’s service. My point is that millions are searching for opportunities on the internet and the fact that crime is rampant only makes them more determined, to start a business from home. This is a huge potential for marketers. So what is the problem? Why are more South Africans actively getting involved? In the next article, we will start looking at these problem areas.
Part 3
As the internet is still relatively new to South Africa, we don’t have many experts, or experience in the field. Those calling themselves experts, have only a limited knowledge and are far too expensive, when compared to overseas competitors. Simple things like service provision, web hosting, design and site building, software, tools, optimisation and advertising, are grossly overpriced. In most cases, they are bought overseas and resold here. I was given a quote, last month, of R120 ($17) per month, for basic, small webhosting service, excluding the domain registration and excluding the internet service provision. That was only the hosting! I was quoted R6000 ($857) for a designer, to look at one of my websites and to make a couple of small changes. It is crazy. We pay between R8 and R12 for an mp3 song, which costs from 10c to 90c in the U.S.A.
The state owned telecommunications company, Telkom, have the monopoly and squash all opposition. This has led to very highly priced access and an indifferent service. Nearly all packages offered by them, or sub contactor service providers, are restricted and capped. The actual service, the technical help and the customer relations are dreadful. The dial up service is very unreliable, the speeds are far lower than advertised, due to the poor state of the physical ‘phone lines and the modems cost the earth. Take the U.S.A for example, where there are something like 800 million people with regular access and hundreds of competitors all offering better prices. The internet is a way of life and the huge speeds and download capabilities are taken for granted. In South Africa only something like 27 million have any form of access, largely due to the high costs. I got a quote from Telkom last week for satellite service. The basic installation cost is R3100 ($443), paid upfront. The monthly rental for the satellite service, capped at 3 Gigs, is R1263 ($180) and I still need a service provider who comes in at a basic charge of R284 ($40) plus consumption and of course I still need to keep my basic phone service for R110 ($16) plus call usage. Once the cap is reached, the service is suspended and additional packages can be purchased for R120 ($17) per 250 Megs. So in all it will cost me, monthly, around R2317 ($331) for a basic internet service of 4Gigs and a phone at home. Obviously there are cheaper options available in the cities, but living out of town, there is no choice. By the way, a friend living in the U.S.A got a similar quote for only $40 (R280) per month and his service boasted more facilities and no capping whatsoever.
For some reason, probably the old apartheid days, South Africa was boycotted by the wealthy first world countries and nobody has told them yet, that times have changed. South Africans suffer many discriminatory obstacles in the use of the internet and over the last few years, I have repeatedly been stumped by these. I have two messages of advice here. To the frustrated, aspirant South African marketers and those who will follow shortly, stop and listen. Do not waste more time and money trying all sorts of offers, you will not succeed. Rather use the time to brush up on your skills. Select a market niche and learn to use control panel, FTP, html, php, hyperlinks and all the other things, that will help you to run your business. Wait for the solution. I have enlisted the help of two of the world’s top marketers to find a way around the problems, for you. To the marketers who are knowingly, or unknowingly discriminating against certain countries, you are leaving money on the table and missing out on a huge potential market. But, that’s okay, I’ll take it. These are some of the more general problems experienced by South Africans. In the next article, we will look at some of the specific problems affecting our marketing abilities.
Part 4
By now, you are probably wondering what other problems I’m talking about and how they are affecting our chances of success. If you have been involved for a while, you have probably encountered a few of these yourself and if you are a newbie, you are likely to still come across these problems soon.
There are obvious generalities that exclude South Africans from participating. We joined about 163 survey companies, when we first started out on the internet. We soon found out that most were American companies and only for Americans. That makes sense, when the product, or service being rated is only available there, but why do they mislead us and take our money. You must have seen the misleading ads about how quick and easy it is to earn money by doing simple surveys. A lot of them claim to be international, for anybody who understands English. The same thing happens. You are invited to do the survey, but as soon as you type in your address, you are told it is not available in your area. We wasted a lot of money on these. The foolproof unconditional money back guarantees are a lot of hogwash. Just ignore them.
The same thing happened with the typing services. My wife joined a few of them, with the promise, that as long as she had a basic working knowledge of English, no experience was necessary. Money as easy and fast to earn, on simple assignments. Well, she wasn’t given any assignments and on enquiring as to the reason, she was told that we spell differently. That was not ever mentioned at the time of joining and was also money wasted. For Pete’s sake, we speak and spell correctly. It is the Americans who changed the language.
We also joined a lot of companies who promised to pay us for surfing and reading emails. We worked our butts off and eventually, after almost a year, had earned a whopping $247000! We tried to cash in, but were then told that no cheques could be issued. Monies were only paid into American bank accounts. They said they were an international company and anyone in the world could join. But, not get paid.
We often see special promos on free hosting, free domain registration and other all too important services. All looks great from the outside, but as soon as we apply we find out that we are unfortunately not eligible. I don’t know how many times I have won prizes. Cash, free products, a trip, ocean cruises, but on trying to claim them, I’m told they don’t apply to South Africans.
Very often, freebies are included to sweeten a deal. I joined a music site for mp3 downloads. The price was inclusive of a whole bunch of bonuses. I was to get meal tickets, petrol (gas) coupons, membership of some or other club, discounts on shopping, blah, blah, blah. Needles to say, I joined and paid full price, but never got any of the goodies that all my American counterparts received. I am very into music and 2 years ago I purchased Music Match Jukebox, with free updates for life, access to the online music shop and full usage of something I think was called Radio Gold. It was full access to 150 live radio stations. After I received my purchase, all I had was the jukebox and the promise of updates. On enquiry, I was told “Sorry, but this offer doesn’t apply to you”, but I paid the full price. Why don’t they tell us before we pay? Why don’t we get a discount? This seems to be common practice and apart from the obvious discrimination and disappointment is false advertising.
Anyway, these are some problems I have experienced, but not really connected in any way to our functionality at internet marketing. What are the problems facing South African marketers? More in the next article.
Part 5
We have covered quite a few problems facing South Africans already and here are some more.
Overseas companies, particularly those in the U.S.A, offering opportunities, services and resources, usually require a fixed email address, at the time of joining. This is to prevent temporary accounts and others such as Hotmail, from being used, as it is very easy to cancel, or change, after joining and the marketer is left with a useless address, in his contact list. South Africans have another problem, in that most of our suffixes, such as .co.za, telkomsa, za, are not allowed. Usually your country is required and many of the drop down menus have small, insignificant countries such as Zimbabwe, Malawi, Mauritius, Ivory Coast listed, but not South Africa. So we have to get ourselves an email address with an overseas company, just to comply. Why?
We, as South Africans, have no shopping carts, or payment processors, suitable for international use, or integration, into overseas websites and the biggest culprit is PayPay. They are the first choice, worldwide and any marketer not offering PayPal, as a means of payment, is seriously disadvantaged. Why then, do they not deal with South Africa? Sure, you can make a purchase through them, but they will not collect monies for you, or allow you to make a withdrawal, if you are South African. Other smaller countries are catered for, but not S.A. There are other options, but none as popular. Most payments, affiliate plans and opportunities, pay through PayPal. I joined dozens of respected affiliate plans and spent a great deal of effort, on advertising, before I found out the truth.
A few months ago, I was experiencing the common problems all new marketers face. I knew what I wanted to do, but not how to actually get it done. I’m talking about the setting up, in order to start business. I needed a domain name, a website, content and products, a hosting service, a shopping cart, a mailing list facility, a form for grabbing visitor’s details, a payment processor, or two, etc etc. You know what I’m talking about. There are so many options available. The web is full of them. Some are free, some cheap, some having special offers, but which was the best for my needs? Nobody tells you that sort of information. How much space do you need for a bookstore, how much bandwidth do you need for customer downloads? How does the speed affect you? I had played around a bit with wysiwyg editors and done a little html coding. I had used a couple of free websites and hey, the last one I built without their website templated builder. I thought I was getting good, but still a little out of my depth. That scared me a bit, so I decided to look for a ready made, turnkey business. They all say the only thing you need to do is to enter your password and account details, then sit back and watch the money roll in. Well I eventually found something that sounded ideal. It was expensive, but I thought I would be saving in the long run. I wanted to sell ebooks, articles, plr, courses and so on. I paid for this business, as I had seen the example and even test drove the shopping cart prior to purchase. Just when I thought I had found a shortcut to starting my business, the problems began. What problems? Read the next article to find out and to see the solution.
Part 6
We were talking about the problems I encountered after I had bought the bookstore. Well firstly, the whole bookstore was inphp with cpanel control panel, my sql and a whole lot of Greek terms. You remember I had worked with online and offline editors in wysiwyg and a little html. Well now I was lost. I was warned not to try to edit in an html editor, or I would corrupt the php. I had never used these before and couldn’t understand why I couldn’t find the pages, to edit them. Then I found that the currencies shown on the products were not compatible with the Rand, but I thought so what, I’ll just sell in dollars. Then I found that PayPal was not an option. Damn, but hey, I could still use NoChex, or the other one, I forget the name. No way, Jose, those weren’t allowed either. I had to have a banking account in USA or UK. I eventually got EGold to work, but how many people pay with gold? That bookstore is still sitting, gathering dust.
There are no local, South African internet companies, for memberships, product sourcing, resources, search engine optimisation etc, so we have to look abroad. Although these are offered reasonably, overseas, we are still subjected to the exchange rate. At present the rate is 7 to the $, 14 to the Pound and around 9 to the Euro, but even so, it is usually cheaper, than our own prices and of course you are spoilt for choice.
Training is another area seriously lacking. With all the conferences, seminars, teleseminars, video training and group discussions unavailable to us in S.A, how are we expected to learn and to keep abreast of developments? Dial up is not powerful enough and anyway it is limited to times between 7pm and 7am, which is a bad time, as even if you stay up all night, it is roughly midnight to midmorning in the States. So how do we learn?
So, with a very limited number of companies prepared to do business with us, with our lack of choice, with our very expensive internet service, with very little access to all the great offers, with our SA email addresses, with our antiquated dial ups, without access to genuine training videos, with the exorbitant exchange rate, with our different spelling, without any reciprocal banks or payment processors, without a compatible shopping cart, with the scams and rip offs and all the rest we have discussed, can South Africans ever hope to get involved in internet marketing?
The truth is rather bleak. Nobody is worried about us, or the problems we have and nobody seems to care. The big “guru” marketers don’t seem to be able to think outside their statelines and regard us as a waste of time. They are happy to take our money, though. But wait, there does seem to be a solution for you. As I said earlier, I have teamed up with two of the world’s top marketers and together, we are trying to resolve these issues. We will put together a complete, turnkey package deal, a ready to run business, with domain, hosting, website, content, decent affiliate plans, a stream of products, an exclusive membership, a working shopping cart and payment processor, training and ongoing support, a proven plan, optimisation, adsense and other monetised methods for those poor South Africans, who want to be marketers. The hardest part of having your own business, is setting it up and getting it working. Treasure Hunting In Unlikely Ways

Interestingly, this is actually a fairly profitable treasure hunting activity for some adults now. Since the various deposit laws have gone into effect in many states, almost all cans and bottles are worth ten cents each. When I lived in Traverse City, Michigan, there was an old man who rode his bicycle around and collected empty bottles and cans from bushes, garbage cans, and anywhere he found them. I caught him on a park bench one day and asked him how much he made doing this. “It pays all of my rent,” he told me. Rent wasn’t cheap in Traverse City.
Other “returnable hunters” have told me that they can make $100 in a couple hours at outdoor rock concerts. Collecting a thousand sticky cans and bottles doesn’t sound like a great job, but it works for them. Some other forms of treasure hunting follow.
Treasure Hunting - The Unusual Ways
Searching for gray water dumps. If you see a depression behind an old building, with bushes growing around the edges, it may have been a “gray water” dump. Before sewer systems were common, this is where the drains from sinks and showers emptied. Small rings, coins, gems and other old treasures are regularly dug out of these by treasure hunters. Just watch out for the razors.
Looking inside walls. One couple found that there can be treasure in the walls of old houses. They bought a home that had belonged to a movie theater owner in the twenties. When they decided to remodel, they opened up a wall and discovered that the walls had been insulated with classic and rare movie posters. It was a fire hazard, but one that turned out to be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars to collectors. makes you want to poke around in the walls of an old building or two, doesn’t it?
Harvesting gold from moss. A man found piles of dry moss in an old barn on a property he had bought. He learned that the moss was collected and sold to garden-supply stores. He burned it to dispose of it, and found with globs of gold in the ashes. The moss was from a gold-bearing stream, where he now regularly harvests more. Gold flecks get trapped in the moss.
Collecting electrical insulators. Old glass electrical insulators can still be found on telegraph poles laying in the weeds along many train tracks. I’ve found and sold a few. The thousands still out there are getting shot at and destroyed by kids and hunters, so don’t feel bad about taking them.
Searching lake bottoms. Drought lowers the water in ponds, and sometimes reservoirs are emptied. When either of these happens, things appear that have been out of sight for years - sometimes valuable things. Treasure hunting in these cases may just mean walking around at the right time.
Straining through the dust. Some car-wash owners have been finding treasure in their garbage. They search the big vacuum tanks when they empty them (what did you vacuum up under that car seat?). Both money and jewelry are common finds. Treasure hunting takes many forms.

Do You Know the Fastest Way to Get a High Page Ranking?
April 22nd, 2008 by ntpserver3457There are millions upon millions of websites on the internet. The majority of these site’s have poor page rankings. Is your site one of them? Would you like to increase your page ranking? Silly question right? Of course, you want a high page ranking…. we all do. Keep reading and I will let you know a little known secret as to how you can quickly improve your page ranking.
In the early days of the web, search engines would get information about a website from the keywords meta tag. This is no longer true. The reason is that several people began to keyword stuff their meta tags to achieve higher rankings with the search engines. The Search Engines got wise to this and changed the criteria they use when crawling websites. This does not mean you should forego keyword meta tags, it is still good optimization practice to include a keywords meta tag however, this tag alone will not get you a high page ranking.
Before I tell you how you can quickly improve your page rank, I want to touch on Search Engine Optimization. Search Engine Optimization is very important to the success of your website and to getting good page rankings. If you have not already done so, I encourage you to learn good optimization practices and use them when creating and submitting your website(s). You can learn more about Search Engine Optimization at http://www.terrysinfosite.com
OK, so how do you get a high page ranking? Did you know that most search engines put a high level of importance on the links to your webpage? When a high ranking website links to your site it will make the search engine take notice. Does this mean that all you have to do is get a lot of incoming links to your website? NO, absolutely not! In fact if you simply go grabbing incoming links from wherever you can you could end up getting your site banned by search engines. The key is to get quality links from high ranking sites. All of your incoming links should be from site’s that have something to offer your visitors. In other words there content should be relevant to yours. After all, if you are searching for information on ‘computer hardware’ you aren’t going to be interested in a link related to ‘dog grooming’ now are you? Another very important point needs to be made before we continue; NEVER use link farms. This is important and bears repeating.. NEVER, EVER use link farms. The use of link farms could get you banned. You want to stay focused on your site’s content… that includes your incoming links.
OK, here is what you have been waiting for, how to improve your page ranking quickly;
First: Go to Google.com and download the Google toolbar. Install the toolbar on your web browser.
Second: Do a search using one of your site’s most important keywords or phrases.
Third: Visit one of the first few site’s displayed in the search results.
Fourth: Note where it says “PageRank” on your toolbar. The green bar represents the page ranking for the site you are visiting and ranges from 0 to 10.
Fifth: By using this toolbar and searching with your important keyword or phrase you can find a site with a high ranking and relevant content.
Sixth: Look for the contact information for the site you are visiting and send a request for a link to your webpage in exchange for a link to theirs.
Every link you get from a high ranking site will improve your ranking with the search engines.
Be aware, since these are high ranked sites, some will refuse your request. Never fear, there is a solution. Go back to your search engine and this time enter “link:” (without the quotes) followed by the name of the site you just approached for a link. You should only need to enter the site name, not the complete url. The resulting display will show you all of the sites that link to the one you approached. You can now go visit one of those sites and ask for a reciprocal link. While this is a ‘backdoor’ approach to getting the link you were originally after…it has been known to work.
Here is a little side-note with regard to negotiating for reciprocal links. This was learned during my years as owner of two businesses. In any negotiation the other side has one thing on their mind at all times….”What is in this for me?” When negotiating for reciprocal links you should stress the benefits that the agreement will provide to them. Try to make your offer as attractive to the other side as you possibly can.
I admit this involves a little time and effort however, a wise man once said, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with an empty tank and a flat tire.” The time and effort you spend is well worth the rewards.
