Keyword Selection - Finding A Good One! - Part 2

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

To refresh your memory from the previous article, we looked at how we can get a list of keywords from Overture. Go to overture search and enter your basic keyword. You will get a list of up to 100 keywords and key phrases using your initial keyword.

The number given for each phrase is the number of searches performed on Yahoo for the previous Month. At this point, if you see a keyphrase that you would like to expand on, you can click on the phrase and get a new search on all terms using that phrase.

Then we test these keywords in Google to see how many pages of info on these keywords there are.

The next thing to do is to enter these keywords in a spreadsheet, we will use excel as an example, but any will do.

You will need four columns of Data.

First column is the keyword list from Overture, which is up to 100 keywords or phrases.

Second column is the number of searches found by overture, corresponding to each keyword.

Third column is the number of pages found by entering the keyword search in Google. The note below the search box says “Results 1-10 of about 3,198,000 for “keyword”. This is the figure to enter.

Fourth column is very important. This is the ratio of searches to results. To make it usable, calculate this ratio as follows SearchesX100/Results. In case this doesn’t print properly it is Searches multiplied by 100 divided by Results. You must do this calculation for each keyword. (easy with a spreadsheet, but out of the scope of this Article!) The x100 gets the figure to a manageable size, centered around 1.

Now ensure the list is sorted in order of column 2, which it should be if you transferred it from the yahoo printout. Delete any rows where the second column value is “too small” - say less than 500.

Re-sort the sheet in order of column 3. Delete any rows where the number of results is “too large” - say more than 1,000,000.

Re-sort the sheet in order of column 4. We now have a list of keywords, in order of “value”, that is greatest demand for least supply.

Eliminate any keywords you don’t want, for example off topic words.

Now if you are setting up a niche website, the first keyword in your list is the master keyword for the Home page, the others are one for each of the other pages.

You can use the same principle for Adwords etc.

Note! both Yahoo(Overture) and Google have different searches for Geographical regions, like North America, UK, Australia etc. It is worth looking at different results if you are targeting different markets.

His Keyword Value Calculator is available now - http://www.tonystockill.com for more information. Go to http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/ for the Overture tool.

How To Make Internet Marketing Paid Membership Sites Work For You

Friday, May 30th, 2008

There was a time when setting up paid membership sites on the Internet — where you have a site only people who pay you an ongoing fee can access — was all the rage.

Lately it seems this isn’t as popular as it was. Mostly because so many of them fail. In fact, in many cases, it seems people drop out of paid membership web sites as soon as they sign up.

Even so, there are a few smart Internet marketers who have been able to make it work well.

And one of those ways to make paid membership sites work is to simply offer content people simply cannot get anywhere else.

In other words, you’re probably not going to get them to pay you an ongoing fee to access your content unless you offer them something that’s just not possible to get online or offline anywhere else but from you and your site.

Yes, that sounds simple, but that’s really what it all boils down to.

The whole key to making paid membership sites work is giving people something unique, valuable, proprietary to you, and that you, and only you, can provide.

For example, there is a marketer named Matt Furey. He has a monthly membership site and he gives away a ton of material to people who sign up for a year. Not material people can download online somewhere else, but real, valuable books, CDs, and even personal assistance with members’ questions.

These are all things you can’t get anywhere else but through him and so his membership deal thrives and grows. You can do the same thing.

It doesn’t take a whole lot of sophistication or technological savvy, either. Just follow the model above with what you’re selling and you will be fine.

A Closer Look At The Roth 401k

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

Roth 401k is a good retirement savings option. Although it does not provide an up-front tax-deduction, the account eventually becomes tax-free, because the withdrawals taken at retirement are not subject to income tax.

This tax benefit can only be provided to persons who are at least 59.5 years old, or are disabled, and who have held the account for a minimum period of five years. Roth 401k provides an opportunity to save with a different kind of tax treatment. It is a good option for those who are just starting their careers, and expect their income to grow in the future.

Eligibility for Roth 401k:

Anyone whose employer offers Roth 401k is eligible for this investment option. If an employee leaves his/her job, the Roth 401k balance can be rolled over into a Roth IRA. One major benefit of enrolling in Roth 401k is that an account holder does not lose eligibility when the income becomes very high. There is no provision of helping a person open this account if his/her employer does not offer Roth 401k yet. Employers provide a form to their employees to state some, or all, of their 401k contributions that will go into their Roth 401k account.

Difference between 401k and Roth 401k:

401k makes available some tax relief in the year a person may have contributed into the account. However, a 401k-account holder is liable to pay taxes on his/her contribution, along with all the investment earnings, later.

A Roth 401k account holder does not get any tax benefit in the year of the contributions, but all the earnings in the account will be free of tax for as long as the account exists. Besides, a Roth 401k-account holder can roll his/her account to a Roth IRA. The Roth IRA account continues to grow with tax-free earnings for as long as it exists. However, Roth IRA is not available to taxpayers with an income above a certain level.

Advantages of Roth 401k:

Since tax rules allow a person to make it as large as a traditional account, the Roth 401k account is more valuable compared to it. Therefore, saving in a Roth 401k account can make a person much better off at retirement. Given below is a table showing the amount required in a traditional account to have the equivalent of $100 in a Roth Account.

TAX- BRACKET AMOUNT
10% $111.11
15% $117.65
25% $133.33
28% $138.89
33% $149.25
35% $153.85

If a person is in the 33% tax bracket, he/she will have to withdraw $149.25 from a traditional account in order to spend $100. This is because $49.25 is used to pay the tax on the distribution. Roth 401k provides more wealth at retirement, as the distribution from it is tax-free.

While many companies that already have the traditional 401k plans, wanted to implement Roth 401k plans, which have been effective from January 1,2006 according to the law, in reality only a few actually have done it, because of the extra expenses involved. These companies want to first observe the success of Roth 401k before actually undertaking the cost of the implementation.

Roth 401k is a good investment option to save tax-free earnings for retirement. People can take advantage of it to be able to have a secure retirement, which is free from monetary worries.

Sanford and Son (Season 6) DVD Review

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

Nominated for six Golden Globes and seven Emmys, including Outstanding Series - Comedy, Sanford & Son became one of the first shows in television history to be almost entirely centered around African-American characters. Modeled after the British TV show Steptoe & Son, the series showcased the underappreciated talents of comic genius Redd Foxx (whose skin color and bad language prevented him from becoming a superstar decades earlier). The brainchild of All In The Family creator Norman Lear, Sanford & Son signaled the beginning of a decade of sitcom classics for the prolific 1970’s TV writer - Maude (1972), Good Times (1974), and The Jeffersons (1975) being the others. Wrought with memorable one-liners and well-timed humor, Sanford & Son was a Top 10 Nielsen rated show every year in which it aired except for its final season (ranking a respectable #27)…

Sanford & Son, set in the Watts district of Los Angeles, follows the life of Fred Sanford (Redd Foxx), a 65-year-old African-American junk dealer who shares his business with his 34-year-old son Lamont (Demond Wilson). With Fred’s wife Elizabeth having passed away twenty years earlier, he often evokes Lamont’s sympathy by clutching his heart and proclaiming, “Oh, I’m coming to join you Elizabeth!” But Fred always survives those near fatal heart attacks, continuing to disperse sarcastic putdowns (often directed at his sister-in-law Esther) and racist stereotypical remarks aimed against whites and Hispanics (especially Lamont’s friend Julio). Using guilt to manipulate his ambitious son into staying and helping run the salvage shop instead of pursuing other endeavors, Fred Sanford spends most of his days lounging around the house (his junk store and home are one and the same) and hanging out with his friends - Grady, Melvin, and Bubba… Well-written and hilarious, Sanford & Son is comedian Redd Foxx at his absolute best…

The Sanford & Son (Season 6) DVD features a number of hilarious episodes including the season premiere “The Hawaiian Connection: Part 1″ in which three jewel thieves conspire to smuggle some stolen jewels from Hawaii to Los Angeles. When Fred hops a flight to Hawaii to attend a Junkmen of America conference, the thieves plant the jewels on Fred in the hopes of using him as a dupe to carry out their nefarious plan… Other notable episodes from Season 6 include “The Winning Ticket” in which Fred becomes the victim of a con game by a pair of crooks who convince him to run a $500 raffle promotion for Sanford & Son, and “A Matter of Silence” in which Fred nearly goes deaf due to the wax buildup in his ears…

Email and the Internet …The Corporate Double-Edged Sword!

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

Email is to process … what the internet is to information and business… Too Much!

On any given day when I start work, I can look forward to my morning ritual of sifting through one or 500 email spams I get due to my e-address being harvested from articles I write that find their way out onto the net. Most of the spam I receive are from caring individuals genuinely concerned about helping me with a serious problem I didn’t even know I had - I think you know what I mean.

To be fair, I should point out that surprisingly, my wife also receives similar emails from people just as concerned about her ‘appendage’ [one she and I have yet to locate] but one, nonetheless, our internet friends are quite convinced they can help her improve-upon if and when we ever find it!

People from Nigeria too, it seems, really need my help. It’s true! They sound so regal, being that approximately 110% of them are members of real Nigerian royalty and all. And I believe them! They say they want to give me money. How nice. In their unmitigated benevolence - rivaled, I’m sure, only by that of Mother Teresa’s - they want to put one or [insert Mike Meyers Dr Evil accent here] four-hundred-million-dollars - give or take, - into my personal bank account… for a price of course. And there are women, each morning, I don’t know and have never met who feel the need to E-communicate with me using opening lines like “Hello my dearest darling”… where were they when I was dating?

It’s not that I don’t have adequate spam protection software to filter out the three legitimate emails I wanted to receive from the hundreds obsessed with my ability to…ah… ‘maintain’… I do. The problem however, is simply that anti-spam software needs ongoing education and re-education, but even with that, often legitimate email inadvertently falls into the ‘Spam’ or ‘Spam Suspects’ folder requiring people like me, with absolutely no problem at all - honestly! - to take the valuable time to go through all the spam. What a pain.

Everyone knows how frustrating and how much time is wasted in our lives everyday dealing with unwanted emails, never mind the vigilance required to ensure we do not make the dreaded mistake of opening that one email, perhaps the one that appears so benign and legit - “Hello my dearest darling” comes to mind - but is neither. The virus or worm I’m talking about is malevolent and infectious. And that is when the real waste of time begins, sometimes lasting for days, as you scramble to rehabilitate your computer, if, in fact, that option still even exists. Sometimes it does not and data is lost forever!

Like it or not, email and the internet have changed us and at times, they are no friend to business. Email has become the ‘medium of choice’ for avoiding simple human interactivity. Inside the office, now vast amounts of information is sent and received by way of e-blasts that require no human-to-human contact but nevertheless, demands no small price in wasted productivity, time and profitability by workers, required to view and/or even respond to them. For example, is there someone in your office [more often in management] who, despite their sincere altruistic intentions, nonetheless, waste so much valuable corporate time because they feel compelled to share motivational stories, sayings and pictures they come across, with the rest of the company? Nearly ever office has one. Get back to work!

It is true, if you are not at your desk, the boss assumes you are not working. On the other hand, plunking away at your keyboard is not quite so obvious, is it? Think about how much corporate time is wasted these days by employees who believe they are masters at multi-tasking. You know who they are. They surf the net, send copious personal emails both in and outside the company - on company time - in addition to the text-messageing and ongoing MSN chats that sit open all day on their desktop, beside the work the company is paying them good money to get done. Sadly, there is nothing funny about that.

If you are still sitting on the fence about the seriousness of this issue, here are some interesting, recent stats to consider:

Internet Usage Statistics - Workplace Source: http://www.netarmorsolutions.com/Info_Inet_Stats_WORK.htm

· More than 60% of companies have disciplined - and more than 30% have terminated - employees for inappropriate use of the Internet. (Source: The Center for Internet Studies)

· 27% of Fortune 500 companies have battled sexual harassment claims stemming from employee misuse and abuse of corporate e-mail and Internet systems. (Source: American Management Association)

· 70% of employees admit to viewing or sending adult-oriented personal e-mail at work. (Source: NFO Worldwide)

· One research firm, International Data, estimates the 30 to 40% of employee Internet use is not work related. (Source: International Data Corp.)

· Dow Chemical Co. fired 50 employees and disciplined 200 others after an e-mail investigation turned up hard-core pornography and violent subject matter. (Source: Associated Press)

· 25% of employees said they spent 10 to 30 minutes a day surfing non-related work sites, 22%, said they spent 30 minutes to an hour, 12% said they spent one to two hours online, while 13% admitted to spending more than two hours a day. (Source: Vault.com)

· Of more than 3,400 executives surveyed, 64.1 percent said that their companies have a formal office policy in place to help manage employee use of the Internet. (Source: Management Recruiters International)

· 37% of employees report that they search for jobs, 45% make travel arrangements, and 11% play online games while at work. (Source: Vault.com)

· 46% of online holiday shopping is happening at work. (Source: Nielsen//NetRatings)

Bottom Line:

Long after the humor subsides from emails that imbue circumspection for one’s athletic performance or lack thereof - and - long before that Nigerian cheque ever arrives in the mail, the gravity of the potential dangers email and the internet bring to bear on business, must be taken seriously. The fact is, the internet is a double edged sword. One side cuts though the competitive forces helping companies realize success, profitability and peak performance. The other, has the potential to cut a company right off at its knees. On a lighter note, as sure as you can be that Bill Gates is not going to send you five bucks, you can take what I’m saying, to the bank… just not a Nigerian one! lol

Mailing Equipment for Your Business

Monday, May 26th, 2008

Mailing equipment generally refers to any machines that could be used to cut down on the time, effort, and cost of sending large amounts of commercial mail. This description includes all devices used to fold, weigh, label, or print on outgoing mail and envelopes.

Buying equipment for your mailroom can be a great investment in the overall efficiency of your company, but it’s important to do the necessary calculations to determine whether buying expensive mailing machinery is a good course of action for your business.

In general, mailroom equipment is only worth having if you send a large volume of mail (100+ letters per day) for either marketing, invoicing, or customer and employee relations purposes.

For the majority of small businesses, it makes more sense to lease mailing equipment than purchase it outright, as the cost of fully equipping a mailroom all in one go can easily run into the tens of thousands of dollars.

It is generally possible to lease low-grade mailing equipment starting at $25/month for each machine. Industrial-level machinery, such as automatic envelope printing and sorting machines, meanwhile, will generally lease for between $100 and $250 per month.

Overall, it’s a good idea to add up the total monthly cost of the equipment you plan to buy, and compare it with the time that your employees are currently spending on manual mail-related tasks. Making this simple calculation is the only way to find out for sure what, if any, automated mailing machines it makes sense for your company to acquire.

Embrace Your Automaton

Sunday, May 25th, 2008

Many people can and have made a few dollars online or in the offline network marketing world. However, many people do not make the really big money. It’s not that difficult, it’s about applying the two best friends you can ever have, that is the leverage known as duplication and automation.

Anyone who does any form of network marketing knows all about leverage, after all that’s what building your downline is all about. Even though they know they need more people there is a tendency among many network marketers to ignore the additional leverage afforded them by duplication. In this instance duplication doesn’t just mean teaching your downline then marketing system, but it means keeping track of every effort you make, keeping track of which ones produce results and duplicating those effort as often as possible. This means getting your downline to duplicate these efforts as well.

When attempting to duplicate successful efforts you must first start by meticulously documenting your every effort. You most know which media did you use, phone, text ad, online ad, email ad, flyer or business card. Where did you use it, which newspaper, parking lot, forum or networking event. Who was your target audience old, young, male, female, affluent or not. What day of the week was it. What time was it. What was the weather like, I’m not kidding everything withing reason you can thing of applies here.

Next you need to figure out not just how many positive results you have had, but how much did each result COST you. Getting 100 positive results is not so great if it costs you $2,000 a piece and you know your lifetime payback is only going to be $500. That’s not good roi. However if you get 100 positive results and it only cost you $2.50 you should be one happy camper.

After you have done the research and figured out what works for your business you need to automate it. Automation does NOT mean spending 23.5 hours of every day with a computer screen in front of you and a headset jammed in your ear. If you spend that much time doing something it doesn’t qualify as automation in our sense. Automation is a form of leverage, it is TIME leverage.

You can get automated and leverage your time by using a PC and PC based programs to machine automate some tasks, by using pre-printed materials, sales copy that is known to work for instance instead of writing your own. You can also get automated by outsourcing to people at reasonable rate of course those things you don’t have to do personally. Don’t print out 25,000 mailers and lug them to the post office if you can find a print shop or high school student who can do this cheaply for you.

Spend your time doing the things that are most effective at getting positive results for you. In the MLM world this means those things that grow your downline. If you find what works and duplicate, then you automate yourself to free yourself from mundane tasks you will have unleashed some potent leverage. If you duplicate and automated you will have embraced the successful network marketing machine, the leverage automaton.

One last word these concepts like so many others in the marketing world are powerful, but they only work to full effect if you apply them liberally and consistently.

If any part of the commercial property expands into a residential or work zone, however, then the buyer has look for a ‘variance’, special authorization to cross over a zone boundary.

Commercial property could be detained by real estate agents who treat it alike as residential property. One can also get commercial property through property auctions. Signs publicity the openness and size of the commercial property could be upright, and arrangements could as well be made to purchase or lease smaller lots. Sellers of commercial property might further also agree to make improvements to the land, like grading off rough spots or clearing out surplus trees. A professional developer might purchase enormous swatches of commercial property just to guarantee its accessibility for later projects.

A city often uses zoning laws to put off conflicts among residential homeowners and businesses. Land chosen as commercial property is hardly ever located in the middle of residential zones. City planners hearten commercial businesses to assemble along busier streets and middle downtown areas. This assists to remain traffic to these sites manageable. Some areas of the city might as well be chosen for ‘mixed usage’, that means some commercial property might be used for any other residential purposes.
