In this article we’re going to cover what is arguably the most famous collectible doll in all of history, Barbie.

The Barbie Doll was first invented by a lady named Ruth Handler, who was actually a cofounder of the popular toy company Mattel. Ruth’s daughter was named Barbara and yes, that is where she got the name for the Barbie Doll. Barbie was first shown to the world at the American Toy Fair in New York City. The doll was made for the purpose of being a teenage fashion doll. In the early days, when we were pretty uptight about sex, there was some controversy over Barbie’s figure. People realized that if Barbie was a real person her measurements would be 36-18-38, which is virtually impossible for any girl to strive for and there were fears that this would cause major psychological problems for young girls, not to mention the insane expectations boys would have of finding someone who actually looked like that. To make matters worse, after Barbie was made, a boyfriend was then made for her. His name was Ken, named after Ruth’s son, and was equally unrealistic as far as looks, though maybe not as bad as Barbie.

Needless to say, the doll was an immediate hit. The first Barbie dolls were pretty stiff but in 1965 Barbie finally got legs that could bend. Again, she could bend in ways that no real person could hope to do. This only added more fuel to the sexuality fire.

Over the years there were more variations of Barbie than you could count. Many different outfits were made for her in that time. Barbie herself had over 80 careers from nurse to rock star to even president. Barbie was a very successful gal. Her very first career however was as a teenage fashion model, which is what she was originally designed for. From there, things just took off. In 1964, back during a time when girls didn’t normally go to school past high school, Barbie went to college. The first Olympic Barbie was made in 1975 and popped up again in 2000.

Probably one of the more controversial Barbie Dolls came out in 1992 when Barbie joined the military as a medic in Operation Desert Storm. The entire military series of Barbie Dolls actually went through Pentagon approval to make sure that the uniforms were as authentic as possible.

But the military wasn’t the last of Barbie’s adventures. Barbie was also made into an astronaut in three different years, the last one being in 1994.

In the years following her first appearance in 1959, Barbie has always kept up with the times and Mattel has always tried to make her accessories as complete as possible, even giving her pets which included 21 dogs, 12 horses, 3 ponies, 6 cats, a parrot, a chimpanzee, a panda, a lion cub, a sex live cam and a zebra.

Barbie’s figure may have not been real, but no doll in history was ever more completely thought out. Barbie has been an inspiration to young girls now for over 40 years and her popularity doesn’t seem to be anywhere near fizzling out.

Attitude — Be confident that when you shoot the basketball, the ball will go through the hoop. If you are confident and have a positive attitude in your shooting ability, the ball will go in more often than not.

First and foremost, for those of you who have not read my previous article pertaining to the the Aeolian Mode, it would be beneficial for you to do so. Otherwise, this particular article might become confusing at times. It’s always Sex to build a solid foundation of understanding before engaging in progressive principles.

As we have previously discovered, the Aeolian Mode is a minor scale. It is also referred to as the Pure Minor Scale or the Natural Minor scale. It has several unique characteristics both in sound and application (see previous article for explanation). Further, the Aeolian Mode (scale) is rooted on the 6th degree of it’s respective major scale. Once again, read the previous article for all of the essential details surrounding the Aeolian Mode.

As guitarists, an important element of performance is to establish a tonal center for our audience to hold on to. Tonic absolutely rules when establishing any tonality. What is meant by tonality? All of the notes and chords that belong in or to any piece of music.

Try this simple chord progression. Play an A min 7 chord for two measures. Progress to a D min7 chord for one measure, then return to the A min7 chord. We just established a tonality; a tonal center. The A min7 chord functions as the I minor (the tonic, home base). The D min7 chord is a great movement away from the tonic and functions as a IV minor. Returning to the A min7 chord (I minor), after playing the IV minor (D min7), is like a breath of fresh air. Everything sounds right.

The Aeolian Mode (Natural Minor Scale) played at the fifth fret (A), will establish the melodic tonal center for the above referenced progression. In short, we just created a minor tonality both in harmonic structure and melodic structure.

The associated major key signature for this example is C major. Remember, the Aeolian Mode is rooted on the 6th degree of it’s own respective major scale. A is the 6th degree of the C major scale. Therefore, it is referred to as the Relative Minor for the key of C major (see previous article).

Relative Minor and Parallel Minor key signatures are great tonalities to establish in order to take your listener away from the respective major scale. It is this movement away from the major tonality that provides interest and color for the listener to experience. Tonality and movement (musical motion) is everything when painting a musical portrait.

In my opinion, Parallel Minor is the greatest an best movement away from the major key signature. A I minor, IV minor progression in Parallel Minor is C minor7 to F minor7. This is a complete departure from the major key (C major) tonality. In the key of C major, the I chord is C major and the IV chord is F major. In the key of C parallel minor, both the C major chord (I major) and the F major chord (IV major) become minor chords (the 3rd of each chord is lowered by 1/2 step to create minor). Note that when Aeolian is played as Relative minor, the chords still reflect the major key signature. There is more contrast when played as Parallel minor. When Aeolian (or any of the other traditional minor scales; subjects for future articles) is played at C, it is referred to as parallel (key of C major) minor to the key of C major. Therefore, for the key of C major, there are two traditional minor key signatures; Relative and Parallel.

This article is a very basic approach to the two types of minor key application. For an in-depth analysis, it’s best to seek out an instructor or program that is very descriptive. The intent here, is to merely skim the surface with some of these concepts.

Once again, it’s important to become educated in music. An authentic understanding of music theory will help in all areas of music. Understanding the function of scales and chords enhances one’s ability to compose, perform, arrange, and produce music. Knowledge is power.

Contrary to what some might think, obtaining a great foundation in music theory doesn’t take years. It takes the desire to learn and a logical approach to these principles. A professional guitar course can chop years off the time it would take for one to learn these concepts in a traditional college or university setting.

There are many things to consider when establishing a minor tonality. Too many to discuss in this article. However, many of these subjects will be addressed in future articles. Stay tuned.

Okay some freshmen girl volleyball players CAN rely on pure physical raw talent when it comes to being considered for the Varsity team but there are some things you sex de do if you are a little less physically endowed to get the volleyball coach to notice you. 1. Come Early, Leave Late to Practice. For girls volleyball practice I use to come to my High School gym one half hour before practice and lay in the middle of the gym and just visualize that the court was mine. Seriously I convinced myself that anything that happened on that court, any ball that came on my side I was personally going to be responsible for. Nothing was going to fall in defense and no one was going to dig my hits. I think something worked because we made it to the California State Championships for the first time my senior year. I chose to to come early and/or stay late to exercise my mental skills but I also did it to practice serving and individual wall drills for setting and passing as well.

2. Become the most effective server on your girl’s volleyball team. Read the article the “Girl’s Volleyball: Top 5 Places to Serve After a Team Timeout” to learn how to become Your volleyball team’s most effective server.

3. Okay its not a movie about girl’s volleyball but still GO rent the DVD movie “Rudy” starring Sean Astin…Watch it …then adopt his “never quit” attitude. Period.Yeah, it’s a football movie - but it’s the best one you will ever see AND you’d be surprised how many conditioning drills in football are similar to the ones we do in vgirls volleyball. Just watch the movie.

4. Go After EVERY Ball in Defense. For your girls volleyball practice adopt the “Rudy” attitude in defense and make any ball in defense YOUR ball. Decide that nothing falls around you or in your immediate area. Take pride in TRYING to get every ball up so your team has another chance to play it and make a point or side out.

5. Become the Backrow Quarterback for your girl’s volleyball team. Talk to your teammates before,during and after the game and give them valuable information about what you see happening. Direct traffic by calling out plays you see developing. This isn’t difficult because many times a backrow player - if she’s concentrating can see a play developing just like the front row player or sooner. So if you see the Right Front player sliding over to run the “X ” Don’t keep this information to yourself! Call it out “Watch the X” Watch number 15 coming around” Say it Loud enough so everyone can hear it. If you see the fake “X” developing which is what alot of setters call after running the X “Call it out” out Frauen Bremen number 15 coming around for the fake X”. Let the blockers here you, let your defense hear you…just commentate. Secrets?

There are no secrets on the court. Let your teammates know what to expect. If a player goes through the front row rotation and all the points she made were by wiping off the block or hitting cross court, the next time she rotates up to the Left Front YOU go up and out loud and tell YOUR front row blockers in a LOUD voice “Hey that #15 the last time hit everything Xcourt. Be ready for her Xcourt attack.” Besides this being a very good way of “getting inside” your opponent’s head it let’s your coach know that you are a smart volleyball player that is making yourself aware of what is going on in the game and is doing what it takes to help your team win.
