Dealing With Criticism And Difference In Opinion

May 12th, 2008 by animalsounds8445

Why this is important

We often become emotionally disturbed during a disagreement, or an argument, or when someone criticizes us or disagrees with us. In such cases Scootermusicd personality usually feels hurt, demeaned and in danger.

When we feel this way, we destroy our own happiness, clarity and health and often behave in ways which we later regret.

A simple technique for gaining clarity is to:

1. Remember that concerning criticism, there are two possibilities:

a. The other person might be correct in his or her observations and criticism. In this case we would benefit by admitting it and making the proper adjustment in our behavior. We have everything to gain by listening and evolving through others’ comments.

What prevents us is the belief that we are not lovable if we are not perfect. Thus, we do not want to see or admit our faults. When we realize that we are worthy of love and respect even when we are not perfect or right, then we will be able to look at our faults.

b. The other person might be wrong. In this case, it is his or her projection, and we need not be affected by these misconceptions or projections. We have in this case the lesson of loving ourselves and also the others even when they perceive us in distorted and negative ways.

2. One solution would be simply not to react one way or the other at first, but to reflect upon what has been said for some time so as to evaluate whether or not it is true.

We can establish a space in our minds where we can store such questions about our personality structure or actions so as to observe objectively for ourselves if they are true. If they are not, then we simply continue on in the way we were.

We need not feel hurt, angry, defend ourselves, prove ourselves, or attack. When we feel inner security and self-worth, we do not need to react in these ways.

3. We can simply thank the other for this feedback and tell him or her that we will think about this observation and will gradually come to our conclusions, and if necessary, make changes.

We do not need to live our lives in accordance with others’ perceptions. We can listen to all, but follow ourselves.

Note:

A “thank you” is enough.

Frasier (Season 2) DVD Review

May 10th, 2008 by animalsounds8445

Along with Friends and Seinfeld, Kelsey Grammer’s Cheers spin-off, Frasier, dominated the prime time television landscape during the 1990’s. Grammer plays the role of Dr. Frasier Crane who, fresh off of his divorce from Lilith, moves back to his hometown of Seattle where he lands a gig as a radio psychiatrist. Frasier’s father, Marty Crane (John Mahoney), a Seattle cop recently shot in an attempted convenience store robbery is in need of physical therapy. Frasier and his brother Niles (David Hyde Pierce) make an effort to mend their relationship with Marty whose plaid shirts and penchant for sports and beer strikes a dramatic contrast with their wine club, opera house culture. After a little prodding, Marty and his dog Eddie (Moose) move into Frasier’s upscale apartment, and Frasier hires Daphne Moon (Jane Leeves), a housekeeper and physical therapist to look after the two cranes.

The entirety of the show takes place in mostly three places - Frasier’s radio station where he works with show producer Roz Doyle (Peri Gilpin), Frasier’s apartment, and the favorite hangout of Niles and Frasier, Café Nervosa. A witty comedic exploration of the nation’s clash of cultures (also illustrated by Frasier’s run-ins with sports guy Bob “Bulldog” Briscoe), Frasier stands alone as one of the best-written shows in television history. Not a single episode can be considered a dud.

The Frasier (Season 2) DVD offers a number of hilarious episodes including episode #40 where Sam Malone (Ted Danson) visits Frasier in Seattle. Sam fills Frasier in on what the various members of the Cheers gang are now up to. In the next to last episode of the season, Frasier and Niles (against Martin’s advice) purchase a restaurant they enjoyed during their youth and rename it “Les Freres Heureux” or “The Happy Brothers”. The two inevitably run the operation into the ground (on opening night, nonetheless)…

Star Trek (Season 3) DVD Review

May 9th, 2008 by animalsounds8445

Nominated for four Emmys, including Outstanding Dramatic Series two times in its short three-year stint, Star Trek is a true legend of television history. The brainchild of former L.A. policeman Gene Roddenberry, the show premiered in Fall 1966 only to be cancelled after three seasons due to lackluster ratings. But it may well have been NBC’s network executives who were the cause of the low ratings as they allotted a less than desirable time slot for the show. When Star Trek moved into syndication, its reruns captured the science-fiction imagination of an entirely new audience, catapulting the Star Trek franchise to new heights. Its newfound popularity would, in the decades to come, spawn novels, comic books, six full-length feature films, and reams of merchandise as fans clamored for anything Star Trek-related. Beginning in the 1980’s, spin-offs of the show began to appear such as Star Trek: The Animated Series, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager, and Star Trek: Enterprise…

Star Trek, the original TV series, follows the adventurous exploits of the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise as they “boldly go where no man has gone before…” The spaceship Enterprise is led by Captain James Tiberius Kirk (William Shatner), an Earth-born astronaut who often exhibits the charm, leadership, and creativity necessary for the mission’s survival. Kirk is joined by Lt. Commander Spock (Leonard Nimoy), a Vulcan-born retired commander and theoretical scientist. Chief medical officer Dr. Leonard McCoy (DeForest Kelley) rounds out the main cast of Star Trek which includes a plethora of supporting crew with multiple guest appearances and cameo roles. Together, the crew of U.S.S. Enterprise seeks to carry out its mission: “to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations…” It’s this pioneering attitude, coupled with imaginative sci-fi worlds, that provides Star Trek with its nostalgic allure - especially these episodes from the original TV series, widely regarded as the most popular of all the TV series…

The Star Trek (Season 3) DVD features a number of action-packed episodes including the season premiere “Spock’s Brain” in which the Enterprise is intercepted by a mysterious, unidentified spacecraft. An alien from the ship beams herself onto the bridge of the Enterprise and renders the entire crew unconscious. When they awaken, McCoy informs Kirk that the alien has confiscated Spock’s brain. Now, the Enterprise is tasked with locating Spock’s brain before his body decays… Other notable episodes from Season 3 include “Plato’s Stepchildren” in which the inhabitants of the planet Platonius take advantage of the Enterprise crew’s goodwill in order to enslave them via telekinesis, and “The Way to Eden” in which the Enterprise is hijacked by a band of Earthlings in pursuit of the mythical planet Eden, a garden-like world of health, purity, and happiness…

Tips to Cure Insomnia - A List of Effective Insomnia-busting Tips

May 9th, 2008 by animalsounds8445

Have you been relying on tips to cure insomnia that left you even more agitated than before you started counting sheep? Why would you fall asleep to the sight of bleating woolly creatures jumping over a fence anyway? But before you go reaching for that sleeping pill, read on for these proven tips to cure insomnia so you may finally be able to sleep.

Tip to Cure Insomnia # 1: See a medical professional.

If you have difficulty either falling asleep or staying asleep, then you may be afflicted with insomnia. Worry not, you are in good company. Insomnia is fairly a rampant sleep disorder and most of the world’s population go through sleepless nights at some point in their lives.

One in every three people, actually, are full-fledged insomniacs. Whether the cause is stress, anxiety, fatigue, or depression–refer to your medical professional for a more accurate diagnosis. It may well be a symptom of some unseen health problem.

Tip to Cure Insomnia # 2: Have your bed companion checked too.

Chances are, the person lying next to you is the factor for your situation. If his or her snoring affects your sleep adversely, tell your partner to see a doctor and have his or her snoring problem addressed. It may be caused by an allergy, an effect of hypothyroidism, sleep apnea, or a deviated septum. Whatever the case, seek medical assistance. Address the snores so you’ll dream comfortably.

Tip to Cure Insomnia # 3: Relax.

Employ relaxation exercises just like yoga, meditation, and tai chi. Rest in bed and breathe deeply for five minutes or until you fall asleep. Visualize yourself in a peace-filled place, your own personal paradise. The idea is to be rid of stress, even if it’s just in your mind. Try to deal with any conflicts or concerns before you go to bed so you may have peace of mind and freed to come to bed unperturbed.

Tip to Cure Insomnia # 4: For Pete’s sake, get a plumber.

Say the faucet leaks and the sound of the water drips are keeping you away from sleep, a temporary solution would be to tie a piece of string around the tap, going all the way down to the sink, so the water will just run down the length of the string noiselessly instead of making that annoying “drip, drip, drip” sound. Then when you wake up, seek a lasting solution and finally call that plumber.

Tip to Cure Insomnia # 5: Throw away the clock.

When you hear the clock making those annoying tick-tock sounds, you get anxious; and in that agitated condition, it will be all the more difficult for you to get some slumber. So hide the clock. Face it the other way if you must. If it’s the kind that ticks and tocks annoyingly, get rid of it. Use a silent one instead, so you won’t be tormented every night with the sound of each passing second of precious sleep you lose.

Tip to Cure Insomnia # 6: Sing yourself a lullaby.

There’s a reason lullabies were invented, and if they are effective on babies, then it will no doubt work for you too. Don’t be shy, sing in bed. I have tried this myself and found that it does wonders. Do try to limit your playlist to mellow stuff, however, as noisier numbers might keep even the neighbors wide awake.

You don’t need to count sheep anymore. All you need to do is heed these tips to cure insomnia. Now go snuggle next to your partner and go off to dreamland.

15 Ways To Say “I Love You” Without Actually Saying It

May 8th, 2008 by animalsounds8445

Here are some examples to help you express your love for your partner without having to say a word.

1. Send a box of chocolates (must be the fancy, expensive kind) with a romantic poem.

2. Send her a bouquet of red roses. Nothing says it more than a dozen roses.

3. Send small, unexpected gifts to show that you care. Think about what your partner’s hobbies or interests are. The gift could be a book, a gadget or as simple as a packet of his favourite sweets.

4. Sing a few lines of your ’special’ song into his voicemail.

5. Brag about your partner to friends while he is nearby. It’ll will make him feel like a million dollars.

6. Buy her jewellery. For some reason, women like rare, expensive rocks and metals. The more the merrier, but more often than not, just the thought of receiving jewellery from her man is enough to make her smile all day.

7. Never, never forget her birthday, your wedding anniversary or other special days. Put it in your diary, get someone to remind you, pay if you have to. Invest in a PDA or subscribe to a free online calendar like Yahoo Calendar.

8. Send her an online greeting card. There are many wonderfully creative sites out there where you can send love cards for free. Do it today.

9. Take your partner on long walks and hold his hand. Go star-gazing.

10. Plan and cook a meal together.

11. Write a romantic love letter or love note. Some people find it easier to write down how they feel.

12. Listen to what she’s saying. Really listen. Active listening involves eye contact, repeating what the other person has said, mirroring their body movements, etc. Don’t try to give a solution to her problems, just provide a listening ear.

13. Write and sing her a love song, if you’re musically inclined.

14. Take her on a drive in a convertible and watch the sunset.

15. Take note of his best qualities and tell him how great he is. Tell the truth!
